Taylor Frankie Paul defended herself and vowed to fight back against alleged misconceptions about her parenting amid her ongoing legal struggles in a new video on Saturday.She shared the video as she battles for custody of her two-year-old son Ever with her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, 33.’If you know me, I don’t claim to be this mother of the year,’ Paul, 32, said. ‘I have my faults – I also have a right to stick up for myself, give context of my life.’In addition to sharing Ever with Mortensen, Paul also has an eight-year-old daughter, Indy, and a six-year-old son, Ocean, with her ex-husband, Tate Paul.In a Get Ready With Me clip, Paul applied makeup while updating her followers on her mindset amid the troubled timeframe.’Last night I studied that “long suffering” trains us to eventually thrive in it and it’s safe to say I’m starting to understand exactly what that means,’ she captioned the shot. I will own that. I can see that. Hopefully, we can move forward.’ The Bachelorette star was seen attacking Mortensen with her minor daughter present in a 2023 clip TMZ posted on March 19. The jarring video led ABC to abruptly shelve Paul’s season of The Bachelorette on the verge of its premiere.Paul accepted a plea deal in the 2023 case, and subsequently was linked to a separate incident involving Mortensen that police had been probing this past February. Both denied any allegations of wrongdoing in the incident.Officials with the Salt Lake County District Attorney passed on moving forward with criminal charges against Paul this past April.At the time, a court awarded Mortensen temporary custody, granting Paul weekly supervised visits with the toddler spanning eight hours. Dakota Mortensen and Tate Paul said in a statement Thursday they have kept mum for the sake of their children, but will ‘tell their story in their own words in the appropriate forum’Both Paul and Mortensen had been granted protection orders which called for them to keep a distance of 100 feet for the next three-year span. In a July hearing, the custody order between Paul and Mortensen had been revised to grant both longer visitation periods.Paul’s ex-husband Tate earlier this month unsuccessfully sought a temporary restraining order against her, at which time she said she would submit to drug tests to have her visits with her older children unsupervised, saying in Saturday’s clip that the results are still processing.Legal representatives for Paul told the Daily Mail last week in a statement that ‘it was recently decided that the ongoing custody actions would be best suited for juvenile court, a common step for families engaged in highly contentious, complex custody matters.’Taylor is not deterred by this transition; she welcomes the added structure and oversight it provides and looks forward to continuing her progress toward normalizing custody and becoming the healthiest version of herself.The statement continued, ‘Taylor remains fully committed to doing whatever is necessary to reach that goal and will not be swayed from it. Taylor appreciates the professionalism of DCFS and its representatives.’Tate Paul and Dakota Mortensen issued a joint statement to US Weekly through their lawyers Thursday, saying that they ‘have remained publicly silent throughout these proceedings to avoid having serious private family matters turned into more of a public spectacle than they already have due to the insatiable appetite of others to share private family information online to promote views and publicity.’They said they were ‘deeply concerned that Taylor’s statement minimizes the gravity of the action filed by DCFS and her many underlying actions that prompted such.’In the statement, they said they ‘have chosen to not participate in the often misconstrued social media and other online activity surrounding their cases’ and ‘have remained silent to protect their children, not because they have nothing to say.’The statement concluded by saying, ‘When the time is right, they will tell their story in their own words in the appropriate forum.’
