TALK OF THE TOWN: Maggie May-day for Sir Rod Stewart as he gets trapped in lift at Prada store with son Alastair

Sprawling on the floor of a lift looking hot and bothered, Sir Rod Stewart is clearly having one of those up-and-down days. The star was getting some retail therapy at Prada with his son Alastair, 20, and Alastair’s girlfriend Mell Ratto, when the trio found themselves trapped in the store elevator – and clearly wishing they’d taken the stairs.Despite the Maggie May singer being one of the world’s biggest music stars – having sold more than 100 million records and earned two inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – help was not immediately at hand.Eventually, the trio gave up waiting, sat down on the floor and got in touch with Prada via Instagram with the understated plea: ‘Can someone help get us out of the elevator?’While being trapped in a lift is a nightmare for many, Sir Rod, 81, and company appeared more bored than panicked as they waited to be rescued during the drama last week.Perhaps they were thinking of ways to describe their plight by reimagining some of the star’s lyrics – Wake up Prada I think I got something to say to you (for instance). It’s the latest in a string of minor setbacks for the singer. In June, he was forced to use an oxygen tank during a concert in West Valley City, Utah, after almost fainting on stage, taking breaths from the apparatus throughout the remainder of the performance. The drama came just a week after he cancelled a concert in California citing health concerns, only to fly by private jet to Boston 24 hours later to watch Scotland take on Haiti in the World Cup.The decision did not sit well with fans who had been expecting to see him perform.Join the discussionShould celebrities get special treatment during emergencies, or should they wait like everyone else? What’s your view?
