The latest Selma Blair sighting comes after her recent shocking arrest for an alleged assault of flight attendants and a Port Authority police officer in New York CityThe outing and this month’s arrest comes after the former Dancing with the Stars contestant disclosed that she previously self-medicated with alcohol to cope with MS symptoms and nerve pain.Blair opened up about her drinking and why she got sober on a recent episode of Jenny McCarthy’s podcast, which was taped before her airport arrest.Blair said that even as ‘a very young girl’ she was using alcohol to help her with headaches, anxiety and nerve pain as well as to soothe her to sleep.’And when you’re depressed that is never going to be a good solution,’ she said. ‘And I was just always feeling tired and depressed and that was horrible.’She added that she does not live a ‘sober sober lifestyle’ but knows that drinking is something she ‘cannot do.’McCarthy broached the topic by asking Blair to talk about how she masked her MS symptoms by drinking.’It’s wild the times that I’ve gone, even as a very young girl, to alcohol. I was never someone that liked drugs. I was just afraid of them, you know,’ she said.’I was never someone that could tolerate opiates, thank God. Like vomit, vomit, vomit, you know, especially with all my teeth stuff,’ Blair continued. Jenny McCarthy shared a clip from her podcast on Instagram, writing: ‘DISCLAIMER: This interview was recorded before the recent events involving Selma Blair. Nothing but love for Selma and this conversation.’ ‘But I was, even at a very young age, using it for the headaches, using it to calm down. And then I realized it was the one thing that took away my nerve pain.”But then, you know, one glass isn’t enough. Two glasses isn’t great. Three is better. Four is horrible,’ she said.Blair added that she knew drinking ‘wasn’t going to lead me to the right place.’As for her current stance on sobriety, she said: ‘I don’t live like a sober sober lifestyle with AA, but drinking, no, I cannot do.”I wish I could be someone that could have two glasses of wine and just be flirty and fun and listen better,’ she shared.’I’m still a human being, but I recognize that alcohol is not good medicine for me.’Blair has been accused of ‘punching and biting’ members of the crew aboard a Delta aircraft bound for JFK airport and trying to open a plane door mid-flight.She has since pled not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault stemming from allegedly kicking a Port Authority Police Department officer. She is also accused of kicking a hospital nurse. Blair, pictured here in court in New York on Monday, October 12, pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault and was released on bailThe star – whose friend Christina Applegate recently announced that she does not have MS and was ‘misdiagnosed’ for years – issued a strongly-worded statement about her alleged actions on the plane. Her spokesman told People, ‘Since Sunday night, the public account of what happened to Selma aboard a flight to New York has been built almost entirely on a police statement and a decade-old headline.’They added, ‘We can, however, correct the record on a few points already in public circulation. Selma Blair experienced a medical emergency on the flight. There was no attempt to open the door of the aircraft. Selma did not intend to harm anyone.’The spokesman added ‘the suggestion by anyone that Selma does not have multiple sclerosis is outrageous. Her diagnosis has been public since 2018. What Selma has been able to do physically in the years since is nothing short of a miracle.”She still has bad days, and she lives with pain daily. Selma also has pseudobulbar affect, a neurological condition secondary to her MS, which bears directly on how a medical episode presents to people who do not know her.”For the same reason, she travels with a service dog who doesn’t leave her side, and the authorities took her dog from her.’Adding that Blair had ‘never been arrested before Sunday night’, the statement concluded ‘there is much more to this story than has been reported, and we ask to consider the entirety of the facts before rushing to judgment, whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion.’During a subsequent hearing, Blair’s lawyer Shawn Barnes claimed that she missed multiple doses of medication before her shocking alleged mid-air confrontation. The October 11 incident aboard a Delta flight was not Selma Blair’s first dust up with airline staff. A previous flight in 2016 ended with the actress being hauled off a flight from Mexico to Los Angeles after mixing her medication with alcohol.Barnes told the court, ‘This was not an intentional assault.”Ms. Blair missed several doses of … a powerful medication that controls severe neurological symptoms’ linked to her battle with multiple sclerosis.Barnes said Blair had traveled to New York City after a long workday, in addition to being injured on the flight.’Ms. Blair boarded this flight after being on set and working extensive hours and exhaustive hours in the days leading up to this flight,’ Barnes said. ‘Additionally, at one point, during the flight, there was an incident where Miss Blair actually fell and hit her head.’Barnes said that ‘these factors, coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation’ in the incident.A Delta representative told The Daily Mail that the company has ‘zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.’Blair is slated for a hearing in the matter on January 19.
