The JL Partners held a survey for The Independent in which a poll revealed that 18million Brits (38% of voters) could not identify the new PM from a picture. Poking fun at the survey, Richard referenced his BBC show Richard Osman’s House Of Games with the caption: ‘Richard Osman’s House Of Commons’.His wife Ingrid Oliver, joined the laughs aimed at her husband, who is famed for his lifelong love of snooker, by writing: ‘Running on a platform of devolution of power away from Westminster towards the World Snooker Federation.’ Richard Osman has poked fun at a new survey which revealed a host of voters confused him with the new Prime Minister Andy BurnhamA tickled Richard responded: ‘My Chancellor? Ronnie O’Sullivan.’The Independent detailed: ‘The survey showed some voters mistook Burnham for figures such as quiz show host Richard Osman, actor Mel Gibson, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and even his predecessor, Sir Keir Starmer’. Fans were quick to react to the comment on both X and Instagram, writing: ‘Who the fook is confusing Andy Burnham with Richard Osman? Mr Magoo?… Richard Osman looks nothing like Andy Burnham #thismorning… ‘Apparently 38% of people asked to Identify Andy Burnham in a survey this week failed! Some people chose a picture of Richard Osman!…’Would have thought 60% knowing was quite high. Four out of ten Britons still don’t know who Andy Burnham is, poll shows…’Incoming prime minister mistaken for Richard Osman, Mel Gibson and Jeff Bezos as shocking poll lays bare the uphill challenge he faces’.Last month, on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, which he hosts with Marina Hyde, he discussed the introduction of Andy. Poking fun at the survey, Richard referenced his BBC show Richard Osman’s House Of Games with the caption: ‘Richard Osman’s House Of Commons’ The duo queried if Andy was ‘actually cool’, with the discussion described as: ‘Richard discusses the former Manchester Mayor’s ‘indie-kid’ credentials with a rifle through his record collection.’ He has however been vocal on his beliefs about celebrities discussing politics. In 2024, Richard hit out at politically vocal celebrities, telling them to stop discussing their political opinions in public because ‘nobody is listening to you.’ On The Rest is Entertainment, he said: ‘I genuinely think this is every single election over here and in America…’Showbusiness does get involved and we hear the opinions of celebrities and we hear about the importance of their views on the records of different candidates and their views on the direction of the country they live in… ‘Nobody has ever given the first toss about anything anyone from the entertainment industry has ever said about any political issue…’There’s a load of little things that happen in this country and you can send a tweet and people go, ‘Oh yeah, that was an interesting take on that.’Arguing that an election is ‘way beyond the entertainment industry,’ he added: ‘You can have all the opinions you want, you can spout whatever you want to do on whatever forum you want to…’You can talk on whatever chat show you want to, nobody is listening to you. Because in elections, people are thinking about their house, their neighbors, their school, their town, their infrastructure, their safety…’That’s all they’re thinking about and every single time somebody in show business gives an opinion on an election, it does the exact opposite thing of what it’s supposed to do, and yet they still do it.’
