Olympic swimming legend Rebecca Adlington had a splashing time when she hit the water during a family holiday in Cyprus.Rebecca, 37, made a return to the pool – several of them in fact – during a luxury break on the sun-kissed isle.Britain’s most successful woman swimmer has fond memories of Cyprus as she trained there alongside the rest of the Team GB squad in 2008 – before sensationally going on to win two gold medals at the Beijing Olympics aged just 19.Rebecca – who went on to win two bronze medals at London 2012 – had first visited the island as a 15-year-old when she was invited to the Great Britain holding camp ahead of the Athens Olympics in 2004.She had no intentions, however, of putting in the hard yards for her latest visit amid the spectacular surroundings of the five-star Amathus Beach Hotel.New mum Rebecca was taking a well-earned break just over five months after giving birth to daughter Thea, who was enjoying her first holiday alongside older brother Albie, five, and husband Andy Parsons. Our room completely blew us away too. We don’t travel light with kids, so having so much extra space made such a difference.’Thea had her own shaded outside area, and Albie could still play out there too.’The little touches really add to making the holiday feel special, special shout out to the luxe coffee machine, and the cute little dressing gown and slippers for Albie.’Albie was in his element, pancakes every morning and straight to the pool, where he loved every second! Andrew had fun jumping off the pier and messing about on the inflatables.’We were all so incredibly well looked after by the friendliest staff team. This was just a brilliant base for a family trip.’Rebecca – who now works as a TV commentator and pundit as well as running her own swimming programme for children – has previously told how she had little time to enjoy holidays due to the sacrifices she made to become one of Britain’s most decorated swimmers in history. After enjoying a break at a resort in Antigua, which had six swimming pools, she told the Daily Mail in 2016: ‘When I was in training as an Olympic swimmer, holidays were difficult to arrange.’I travelled a lot, but like many people in sport I usually saw nothing more than an airport, a hotel and a swimming pool.’After training with the British squad in 2004, Rebecca went on to join her parents and two older sisters on a family holiday in Rhodes while the Olympics were taking place on the mainland. She said of the experience: ‘My mum and dad kept telling me off because I was just in the room the whole time watching the Olympics.’I was 15, I was really into the sport, I had just met the Olympic team and I felt like I really wanted to cheer on my friends.’ Rebecca told the Daily Mail: ‘Cyprus has always been a special place for me since my Olympic training camp days there, so it meant a lot to return with Andrew, Albie and Thea this time’ She said: ‘The island is just as stunning as I remembered it! We loved having them stay with us.’Rebecca – who also has an 11-year-old daughter Summer from a previous marriage to fellow swimmer Harry Needs – recently spoke of the joy of having Thea after two pregnancy losses. In 2022, Rebecca suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage at 12 weeks which required emergency surgery and resulted in her being hospitalised with sepsis.Devastatingly, the following year, the couple learnt their next baby had died in the womb at the 20-week scan.Rebecca had to be induced to give birth to her daughter, whom they named Harper, two days later.Announcing Thea’s birth on February 28, Rebecca said: ‘What a rollercoaster this whole experience has been.’Three years, two miscarriages, 39 weeks carrying our magical rainbow girl, and 87 hours in hospital.’Sharing images of Thea being cradled by her big sister and brother she added: ‘Our family is complete.’
