Kaling is mom to children, Katherine, eight, Spencer, five, and Anne, two. She has yet to name the father of the children, though many fans suspect the dad is her ex-boyfriend BJ Novak.

Diabetes has been a serious concern for her, especially since becoming a mother.

‘I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal,’ she explained.

She is thrilled that she is in good health now that she has lost an estimated 40lbs.

‘Do I wake up every day being like, “I look amazing and I’m so gorgeous”? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy,’ she said.

In a 2011 essay titled Chubby for Life, which was published in her first book, Kaling detailed her struggle with her weight. She still frequently posts about how she used to be fuller as a child.

Now she has commented on the fan reaction she has received. ‘It’s sometimes no fun when one of your favorite actors loses weight,’ she shared with Bustle.

‘You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you.

‘Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinized, but also I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture.’

Last year she said she wished she cared less about weighing herself as a youngster.

The comedienne reflected on the one piece of wellness advice she would give to her younger self.

In a chat with Shop Today, uploaded to TikTok, the interviewer asked Mindy: ‘What is the one piece of wellness advice that you’d give to your younger self?’

The star admitted: ‘Don’t worry about the scale.’

In 2022, Mindy shared that her mentality and fitness routine helped her shed weight.

She told People: ‘I’ve tried really hard to let go of this idea of losing weight for vanity reasons and really trying to think of how I can be healthy.

‘And for me, healthy is working out, moving my body a lot, keeping hydrated, and then not having negative connotations around working out and making me feel like if I don’t do this, then I won’t be something else.

‘And that’s taken a long time to kind of shed those old ideas of working out.’

Also that year, The Mindy Project alum revealed she did not restrict her diet because it ‘never really worked’ and did not change it up following the birth of her son Spencer in September 2020.

The star – who has decided to keep the identity of her children’s dad private – told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I eat what I like to eat. If I do any kind of restrictive diet, it never really works for me. I just eat less of it.

‘I wish there was something more juicy or dynamic about the way that I’ve lost a little bit of weight, but that’s the way I’ve done it.’
