I love myself!’Kim did acknowledge however that ‘there’s certain things that I think I was obsessive with that I think I’ll always have time to fix, or whatever.’Nevertheless she maintained that ‘people think I did it because I had low self-esteem but that wasn’t the case. I think I did it because I was a little too vain at the time.’Describing herself as a ‘perfectionist,’ the Crush on You hitmaker observed: ‘It teaches you a lesson, too. You gotta pull back from certain things.’She insisted her involvement with her abusive ex was also not due to a want of confidence, as ‘he never really put me down in a way where he thought he made my self-esteem bad as far as saying, oh, I was unattractive. He thought I was beautiful.’Kim recalled that ‘he had a problem, and I think sometimes women get stuck on thinking we can change a man or thinking he’s sick and we can help him, and that wasn’t the case. A person like that has to go to professional help or something.’Although she refrained in that interview from identifying the perpetrator of the abuse that caused her to go under the knife, she disclosed years later that her 1990s romance with The Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie, was ‘very violent.’ Kim, who has been frank in the past about undergoing plastic surgery, looked strikingly different to the way she did during her heyday of the 1990s; pictured 1999 She reflected on her cosmetic procedures in 2005, explaining that she availed herself of one nose job to correct the damage from the abuse she suffered in a relationship; pictured in 2005In 1999, two years after Biggie was murdered, Kim revealed she had gotten pregnant while they were together and undergone an abortion.Given ‘the kind of relationship that Biggie and I had,’ she reasoned that bringing a child into the mix ‘was something that couldn’t take place,’ she told The Source. It was Biggie who had discovered Kim in the 1990s, shepherding her rise to fame by adding her to his group Junior M.A.F.I.A., which also included Lil’ Cease. Kim has kept her daughter’s life largely out of the public eye, but in a 2021 interview she raved that Royal was her ‘bestie’ and ‘awesome.’She shared that she would ‘have to support’ her daughter if Royal turned out to be harboring ambitions to become a music star in her own right.’I can’t be a hypocrite,’ Kim reasoned to Entertainment Tonight. ‘But some of the stuff that I know now, I will guide her and direct her so that she don’t make the same mistakes that I made. Also, I may suggest a different route than me.’
