Inside Angelina Jolie’s comeback plan as she prepares to make Hollywood return after getting her ‘fighting spirit’ back, taking a swipe at Brad Pitt and reclaiming her power after years of feeling ‘broken’

She was once a box office stalwart, taking on several blockbusters a year. Yet in recent years, Angelina Jolie has faded from the limelight, withdrawing from the public eye to focus on family and only releasing one film in the last five years. While she tentatively dipped her toe back into showbusinesses in 2024 with the release of Maria, a biopic about Italian opera singer Maria Callas, she has now made it clear that she’s back for good. Angelina is currently on the promo trail for Couture, where she stars as an American filmmaker who learns she has breast cancer while in Paris for Fashion Week. The project is one that Angelina holds close to her heart, after her mother Marcheline Bertrand died of breast cancer at the age ?of 56, while Angelina underwent a preventative double mastectomy in 2013.It’s a role that has seen Angelina revisit past trauma and pour her pain into performance, and in doing so she has been incredibly open about her personal development and how she’s found herself in recent years.  Inside Angelina Jolie’s comeback plan as she prepares to make her grand Hollywood return with new film Couture after getting her ‘fighting spirit’ (pictured this month)  In Couture, Angelina stars as an filmmaker who learns she has breast cancer while in Paris for Fashion Week. It’s a role that has seen Angelina revisit past trauma and pain Angelina felt immense responsibility taking on the role, as she explained: ‘I thought often of ?my mother and how much I think this film would have been wonderful for ?her when she was going through this.’It also made Angelina revisit her mastectomy surgery, which she underwent after learning the mutation in her BRCA1 gene gave her an estimated 87 per cent risk of breast cancer and 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer.Reflecting on filming a scene in which operation lines were placed on her chest by ?an ?oncologist, she told Reuters: ‘It felt a strange moment to have Hollywood in my hospital room. ‘Here I am, you know, in my gown, getting my needles, doing all the stuff that I do, but now we are sharing it. And so, it felt very vulnerable. ‘I think what we found in doing this, and hopefully what the audience will feel, is that we’re ?connected. We’re connected as human beings, and we ?all go through something… And it’s very necessary to pull us all through being human’.While on the promotional trail for Couture, Angelina has also opened up about a change to her mindset in recent years. Discussing her return to acting, Angelina revealed that she had practically quit the craft prior to ending her marriage to Brad Pitt in 2016.’I had kind of quit acting before my divorce. I was focusing on directing, and I thought I’d be doing my international work,’ she told Variety.’But then suddenly the only way to be home more and for short periods of time being away or to make a good amount of money, was to go back to acting.’I was only taking things that were short or close by or I could take [my children].’  While on the promo trail, Angelina has taken swipes at her ex-husband Brad Pitt (pictured in 2014) and explained that she had practically quit acting prior to ending their marriage in 2016 She took a swipe at Brad’s estranged relationship with their six children – all of whom have dropped the Pitt surname (pictured with Knox, Vivienne, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara and Maddox in 2019)She then took a swipe at her ex-husband and his estranged relationship with their six children – all of whom have dropped the Pitt surname.Angelina and Brad share three biological children: Shiloh, 20, as well as 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. They are also parents to Maddox, 24, Pax, 22 and Zahara, 21, through adoption. Discussing her return to acting, she declared that her ‘fighting spirit’ is finally back and that her children are to thank for it, gloating that her kids ‘still like [her], which says a lot.’The remarks appeared to be a dig at Brad, 62, who has had little to no contact with his children in recent years amid claims of ‘parental alienation’ on Angelina’s part.’I think my fighting spirit is finally back. I lost it for a bit,’ Angelina explained.’I got kind of taken down a little bit and it’s coming back in large part thanks to my children, who are now older, and encouraging it.’The Oscar-winning actress then shared what her children ‘want’ for her now that they are all almost adults.’My kids are almost all 18, so now they want to see me traveling the world, they want me to get out and do things.’They know me more than anybody, and they still like me, which says a lot.’She added that her kids were ‘very encouraging of me kind of getting back to aspects of myself that maybe I hadn’t felt as free to do.’While Angelina may be officially separated from her husband, the pair are still battling it out in court over their French winery Château Miraval. Last week, Brad scored a major legal win allowing him to face-to-face with vodka billionaire Yuri Shefler who bought Jolie’s stake in the vineyard.A California Superior Court granted the F1 star’s motion to depose members of the Stoli Group, which is run by Shefler, per a June 17 court filing obtained by People.Yet Angelina’s lawyers insisted Brad’s latest legal wins ‘have made no impact on the merits of the case, and certainly has no impact on Ms. Jolie’s case.’They added: ‘At this point, Ms. Jolie is just looking forward to defeating the case at trial next year so that their family can finally focus their energies on healing and moving on.’ Angelina has hinted that she’s ready to start dating again after divorce after her new film changed her perspective on romance (pictured with on-screen love interest Louis Garrel) When it comes to moving on, Angelina has hinted that she’s ready to start dating again after divorce. She told Yahoo Entertainment: ‘To be candid, I haven’t dated since I divorced a decade ago. ‘So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children, my family.’ Yet through her role in Couture, in which her character has a daughter and is dating, Angelina shifted her perspective. She mused: ‘It took me a second to kind of say, well, she can also love her daughter and be dedicated to her daughter and also need this as a woman and receive this as a woman.’
