Geena got her start in acting with a small role as a soap opera star in the 1982 movie Tootsie, starring Dustin Hoffman.
Last week she was a guest on Watch What Happens Live, where she told host Andy Cohen about the role: ‘It was my first thing I auditioned for and I got it.
‘I’d never been on a set, and I thought, “Maybe there’s some special movie acting that I never learned.” So, I was a little concerned about it.’
Following Tootsie, she went on to appear in the 1986 science-fiction horror The Fly with then-beau Jeff Goldblum.
Then she appeared in Beetlejuice and The Accidental Tourist, which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Her 1991 film Thelma & Louise – which is approaching its 35th anniversary on May 24 – became a box office sensation.
She then appeared in a role opposite Tom Hanks and Madonna in 1992’s A League of Their Own.
The star later appeared in Cutthroat Island and the Stuart Little franchise.
