She has travelled halfway around the world to compete in Strictly Come Dancing and last week was due to meet Queen Camilla. But Delta Goodrem has revealed that a fractured rib forced her to miss the royal engagement as well as a week of the BBC dance contest. The Australian singer, 41, made a triumphant return to the ballroom tonight, receiving the first ten of the series for her rumba with professional partner Kai Widdrington. But despite the remarkable comeback, Ms Goodrem admitted she is taking her Strictly journey ‘day by day’ as she continues to recover. She believes the injury followed a punishing run of rehearsals in which she and Widdrington, 31, had been attempting ‘so many lifts’.Asked if she had managed to meet the Queen despite being injured, she told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I didn’t, no. Last week I missed out on a lot of wonderful things that were happening. Delta Goodrem has revealed that a fractured rib forced her to miss the royal engagement as well as a week of the BBC dance contest Ms Goodrem admitted she is taking her Strictly journey ‘day by day’ as she continues to recover‘It was unfortunate that it was that week, that there were a couple of wonderful things in the calendar. But that’s okay. I accept this as life and you’ve just got to keep moving forward.’Ms Goodrem said the injury developed after rehearsals for the salsa she and Widdrington performed earlier this month.Although she initially continued dancing, the pain worsened after the pair topped the leaderboard with 33 points and secured the first nine of the series. She said: ‘I noticed that I’d had some pain and it just started to really go downhill.‘I had gone through trying so many lifts. I’ve really jumped into this incredible experience with everything I’ve got, like I do in life.‘It was at the end of the night that the rib decided it had had enough and it was done.’Asked if her bandages would be sparkly for tonight’s show, Delta joked: ‘That was exactly what my words were today when we were doing a fitting.’I said, ‘Do you think we could bedazzle? Just a little bit of sparkles on the bandages, what do we think?’.Ms Goodrem also said she hoped to bring more music from her homeland to the ballroom after being asked if she might perform to a song by fellow Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, 58.She said: ‘Yeah, I love that. The Aussies all check in. We’re all connected and I always feel the love and support from my homeland.‘Definitely, of course, I’ve got my patriotic heart with some of the Aussie music.’Both singers found fame on Neighbours, with Ms Minogue playing Charlene Robinson before Ms Goodrem joined the soap as aspiring singer Nina Tucker in 2002.Tonight Ms Goodrem and Widdrington performed a rumba to Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back To Me Now after doctors cleared her to return.Anton Du Beke called it his ‘favourite dance of the series by a million miles’, while Craig Revel Horwood described the performance as ‘totally and absolutely gorgeous’.Revel Horwood awarded her seven, Motsi Mabuse nine and Shirley Ballas eight before Du Beke raised his ten, taking her total to 34. The Australian singer, 41, made a triumphant return to the ballroom tonight, receiving the first ten of the series for her rumba with professional partner Kai WiddringtonAn emotional Ms Goodrem said afterwards: ‘It was a tough week this week. The fact that I get to dance, I’m thrilled.’Her ten was followed by two more for Olympic skeleton champion Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita’s Couple’s Choice to Olivia Rodrigo’s Stupid Song.Ms Stoecker received top marks from Ms Mabuse and Du Beke, giving the couple 37 points and putting them at the top of the leaderboard.Ms Goodrem and Widdrington finished second with 34, while Shaun Wright-Phillips and Alexis Warr were at the bottom with 17.Elsewhere, Strictly was forced to correct an embarrassing scoring blunder live on air after displaying the wrong total for Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola. The EastEnders actress, 38, had been awarded a six by head judge Ms Ballas for her tango to Blondie’s Atomic – but an on-screen graphic showed a seven.Host Emma Willis interrupted proceedings before the leaderboard was revealed, saying: ‘Before we go to the leaderboard, we need to apologise because there was a mistake with Lacey and Vito.‘Shirley scored a six but the graphic said seven. So we can confirm Shirley did in fact score a six, so the correct total score is 28.’It capped an eventful show in which the judges appeared to be at each other’s throats.Revel Horwood told Ms Mabuse, ‘Thank you for telling me what I’ve already known for 22 years, darling,’ during one disagreement. He later took one of Ms Ballas’s miniature shoe props and stuffed it into her mouth, prompting presenter Josh Widdicombe to tell Ms Turner: ‘Get upstairs because the judges are turning on one another!’Tonight’s show also saw Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin dance a salsa to Rosalía’s Despechá, while Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu performed a foxtrot to Olivia Dean’s Man I Need. The scoring mishap follows criticism of Strictly’s new presenting team. Last week Mr Widdicombe was mocked by viewers after stumbling over his words within seconds of the live Icons Week show beginning.
