AMANDA PLATELL: Sorry, Myha’la, you weren’t voted off Traitors because of ‘unconscious racial bias’… you just weren’t a good player

Unashamedly I’m among the 10million viewers addicted to Celebrity Traitors. It’s not just to watch its magnificent dominatrix Claudia but also to see how the often hapless celebrity folk fare. And who could have anticipated this week’s ludicrous twist following the banishing of innocent-looking American actress Myha’la Herrold? She later claimed the show was guilty of ‘unconscious racial bias’.Well, I’d say she was booted out because she’s not a good player. The way she stupidly winked at Traitor Richard E. Grant after he was banished raised suspicions she couldn’t be trusted so she was voted off. And because she was so infuriating no one really cared if she was out.But ‘unconscious bias’? My rudimentary count of the 21 contestants, finds that one third of them are not, er, white. Traitor Maya Jama has a multi-cultural background, with her dad being Somalian and her mother of Swedish and Scottish descent American actress Myha’la Herrold, who was banished off Traitors last week, claimed the show was guilty of ‘unconscious racial bias’Amol Rajan was outed in the first episode not because of his Indian heritage but because he’s egregiously obnoxious. Singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock (Jamaican descent), comedian Romesh Ranganathan (Sri Lankan parents), influencer King Kenny (Nigerian heritage) were all – spoiler alert – still in the show as of Thursday night. To top it all, the exquisitely evil chief Traitor Maya Jama of Love Island fame also has a multi-cultural background, her dad being Somalian and her mother of Swedish and Scottish descent. My concern about Myha’la’s claim is that the hand-wringing BBC may take it seriously and ruin the show with wokery.Perhaps it’s hard for you to swallow, Myha’la, but you were banished not because of your skin colour but because your contribution to the game was utterly insignificant.Snap that makes me worry for Vic Victoria Beckham looked incredibly thin in New York this week with her Hermes Kelly 32 crocodile leather bagCan I be the only one both astonished and concerned about how incredibly thin Victoria Beckham looked in New York this week? Her Hermes Kelly 32 crocodile leather bag made her tiny frame look even more fragile. In her Netflix series she bravely revealed a lifelong struggle with an eating disorder.Perhaps this is a picture Vic should put on her fridge door – as a reminder to eat more.Perhaps not wise of Camilla, when launching her BBC2 series The Book That Changed My Life, to reveal she devoured D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover as a teenager – all about a reckless, pleasure-seeking, aristocratic woman whose torrid affair scandalised polite society. The fall MontyMichael Palin, 83, currently appearing in his new Channel 5 travel show about The Philippines, has had to cancel his live tour after falling in the bathroom of his family home, resulting in three fractured ribs and a minor pelvic fracture.Best wishes for a speedy recovery Michael, and a message to all of us who are not 40 any more: however humbling, a non-slip, suckered granny mat on the shower floor – and handrails – can be life-saving. Newly appointed Katie Zacharia has left her job as the Whitehouse Press Secretary after she was discovered to be a fake and not an attorney as she’d claimedNew Whitehouse Press Secretary Katie Zacharia last night left her job after she was discovered to be a fake and not an attorney as she’d claimed. She had unkindly been described in a profile as the woman with the ‘to-the-t**s golden hair’.Crikey, how sexist.Next they’ll be telling us her blonde tresses, mega-white teeth and fulsome breasts aren’t real either.Trump tiger video is new lowOne must wonder once more about the sanity of Donald Trump after he posted an AI-generated video of him fighting off a tiger, to his 13million followers. This, following the tragic death of vulnerable young William Chapman, 24, at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Trump even posted the actual footage of William being mauled to death, expressly against his distraught family’s wishes. We can only hope the President gets his own mauling at the US mid-term elections.NHS hospitals have finally agreed to enact the Supreme Court ruling from April last year that bars trans women from single-sex spaces, including wards. Given that more than 3,300 patients every day are still in ‘corridor care’, how will that work? Or will the NHS allocate special corridors for trans folk?Let’s celebrate Bake Off MollyThe death of Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte, 34, born with cerebral palsy, should give us all pause for thought about the way we view those on TV with serious health conditions.Look at the unkind comments on social media that complained of box-ticking inclusivity after Molly Chauhan appeared on The Great British Bake Off in her wheelchair. She gave more joy than any other contestant, yet still got voted off.Her bakes may have been undercooked but the way she competed shows she’s a woman to be celebrated.A euphoric moment when I spotted that the new list of Britain’s most fashionable surnames included mine! Only to put on my specs and realise it was actually ‘Patel’. It reminded me of social media comments after TV appearances accusing me of ‘whiting up for the cameras’ and putting a couple of extra ‘l’s in my name to disguise the fact I was an illegal migrant. Can’t Burnham keep score? Despite claiming he had only ‘one significant meeting’ with Manchester City’s under-fire owners, it is revealed former Manchester mayor Andy Burnham met the Abu Dhabi billionaires – who invested heavily in the city – at least six times. And still, innocently fluttering his eyelashes, the PM would have us believe, with apologies to Barry Manilow: ‘Oh Andy, you came and you gave without taking.’The new reboot of the 80s hit TV series Miami Vice starring Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan is called Miami Vice ’85. It’s yet another sequel of the show that was whacked in 1989 after Joan Collins’s Alexis and Linda Evans’s Krystle Carrington – complete with shoulder pads on Dynasty – knocked it off its perch. The 2006 movie reboot starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx was a turkey. And to think Tom Cruise is pilloried for his new loss-making movie Digger for trying something different.Meghan Markle appeared in Nottingham without her engagement ring, made with two diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection. It’s believed to be the second most valuable engagement ring in the Royal Family behind Kate Middleton’s which was, of course, Diana’s. Maybe Megs, without a state-funded 24/7 security detail, didn’t trust those East Midlanders not to nick it. So protective were Led Zeppelin of their hit Stairway to Heaven, that they held out for 55 years before allowing it to be used in a movie. Now it is to appear in Netflix’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. I’m guessing there have been no bidders for Rolf Harris’s 90s didgeridoo hit version of their song.
