Alison Hammond had a tense exchange with Janet Street Porter on Tuesday’s This Morning as the pair discussed weight loss. The panel, which was also formed of Nick Ferrari and Dermot O’Leary, were debating whether it’s acceptable to call someone ‘fat’ after a doctor suggested the nation should be more transparent when discussing weight.  Things got off to a tense start when Janet exclaimed: ‘I’m amazed I can even say the “fat” word. I said it a couple of years ago on Loose Women and all hell broke out! It’s a banned word.’ Alison interjected to say ‘it’s just a describing word’, to which Janet shot back: ‘it is, but it’s like a poisoned word’. Dermot then argued: ‘it’s the context’, to which Alison added: ‘and who delivers it’, as Janet continued: ‘The whole area is a minefield.’I don’t know anyone who tells the truth about how they’re losing weight or why they’ve gained weight. I don’t know anyone who tells the truth about how they’re losing weight or why they’ve gained weight’, while calling fat a ‘poisoned word’ Alison, who has lost 11 stone in recent years, then shared the story of why she decided to lose weight, explaining she was inspired by her late mother. She explained: ‘I’ll never forget when my mum, she was really ill in hospital. She looked at me – she’s never commented on my weight my whole life – she said Alison, “don’t end up like me, try and sort out your weight.” ‘I was 30 stone that day. The fact it came from my mum who was like my core values, that’s the day I changed, from her telling me. ‘So if it’s done in love, you can see someone genuinely loves you and wants the best for you, and just wants you to start loving yourself, honestly it meant so much to me.’ The former Big Brother host then questioned Janet: ‘Why do you think people are dishonest about losing weight?’ to which she replied: ‘I don’t know anyone who tells you the truth.’ Alison argued: ‘But how do you know if it’s [not] the truth when they’re telling you?’ Janet then mused: ‘Well exactly. On social media now we’ve got two problems – people who are presenting themselves as healthy who are not doing any exercise, just jabbing. ‘And we’ve got the people who can’t put any photographs online without their skin airbrushed – smoothed, ironed – so the difference when you see the person in real life…’  The former Big Brother host questioned Janet: ‘W hy do you think people are dishonest about losing weight?’ to which she replied: ‘I don’t know anyone who tells you the truth’ Alison, who has lost 11 stone in recent years, then shared the story of why she decided to lose weight, explaining she was inspired by her late mother (pictured right in 2018)Alison has been candid about her weight loss in recent years, revealing that the key to her success was simply cutting out sweets, fatty foods and exercising with a personal trainer.Stating that weight-loss jabs weren’t for her, she told Good Housekeeping UK: ‘I think that, for people who need to use them, they’re a good thing – but for me, as soon as I hear any scare story, I get frightened.’So I haven’t wanted to use them, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t in the future, and I certainly wouldn’t look down on anyone who did.’She added: ‘My mum had type 2 diabetes and she was worried for me, so when I then found out that I was pre-diabetic, that was frightening.’I thought: “I have to be an adult about this”. The sweets had to stop – and the fatty foods.’Twice a week, I see my personal trainer and I have a couple of weights in my bedroom. I walk, I stretch and sometimes I do a bit of yoga.’She also recently revealed she has started Reformer Pilates and circuit classes in a bid to keep the weight off. As she works to maintain her figure after making lifestyle changes, Alison gave an insight into the measures she has taken. Join the discussionDo public figures owe people honesty about their weight-loss journeys?What’s your view? I really need a good stretch – so Reformer Pilates has been brilliant for me. ‘I also do this early-morning circuit class from the brilliant Steve Hensel at Blue Zone. I’ll go at 6.30am and do a full hour, it’s a proper old-school gym.’ Alison said that she leaves the gym feeling ‘amazing’ after working hard, but while she is keen to try things, there is one wellness practice she won’t adopt. She continued in an interview with Closer Magazine: ‘I did try one of those cold plunge pools once – and absolutely not! It lasted about a minute. I was like, “Why am I literally trying to kill myself?”‘Reformer Pilates, loved by Meghan Markle and Jennifer Aniston, costs around £25 to £40 for a 45-minute class and is surging in popularity in the UK.Alison previously said she was ‘so embarrassed’ by her weight when she weighed more than 20 stone that she joined Weight Watchers in 2019 to focus on her health.
