Abbey Clancy reveals her daughter Sophia, 15, was nearly arrested while flying to New York after she joked about ‘having a gun’ with immigration officers

Abbey Clancy has revealed her daughter Sophia was nearly arrested by immigration officers, after she made a joke about ‘having a gun’ during their flight to New York.The model, 40, flew to the US alongside husband Peter Crouch and their four children to watch the World Cup Final on Sunday. In a new episode of her and Peter’s podcast, Abbey shared the awkward moment that an ill-timed joke by Sophia, 15, nearly led to her arrest.Abbey revealed that Sophia was grilled by immigration officials when she questioned why she had to have her fingerprints taken.She said: ‘Sophia nearly got arrested at the airport, we’re landing in New York, it’s kind of security heavy… strict. ‘Those immigration officers are not fun. Is that in case there are fingerprints on the gun?”’They were like ”sorry Miss, what did you say? What fingerprints on the gun?” and then she was like ”there’s guns here and you could have my fingerprints…” and they were like ”what? your fingerprints are on a gun?”Abbey said she managed to intervene, and tried to explain to the officials that Sophia was just observing how they catch criminals.She said: ‘I was like ‘no, my daughter is not saying her fingerprints are on a gun’, she’s saying ”is that how you catch criminals, if fingerprints are on a gun?”Things got even worse when a woman left her bag unattended next to Abbey in the queue, as she said: ‘A lady left her bag and the queue spirals round and everyone was going ”whose is this?”’At this point she was at the opposite end and I was right near the bag and I was thinking f***ing hell, so this poor woman got accused of leaving a bomb bag.’She just left it at the end as she didn’t want to keep carrying it.’So then we got our bags and the driver left us because we were taking too long and I just burst into tears.’Despite their turbulent trip into New York, Abbey and Peter have made the most of their time in the iconic city, as they took their four children on a boat cruise around the Statue of Liberty.The model shared a sweet snap of when 11-year-old Liberty saw the iconic landmark which shares the same name.She playfully captioned the post: ‘When Liberty met Liberty #tourists’.The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical monument located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The monument was a gift from the people of France to the United States to celebrate American independence and the abolition of slavery.  Despite their turbulent trip into New York, Abbey and Peter have made the most of their time in the iconic city, as they took their four children on a boat cruise around the Statue of Liberty  Abbey cut a casual figure in a black baseball cap and tight black vest, while Peter rocked a white T-shirt and capTheir daughters Sophia, 15, Liberty and sons Johnny, eight, and Jack, seven, looked like they were having a blast as they grinned for family snaps. The family flew out to reunite with Peter who had joined the FOX Sports Broadcast Team in the United States for the World Cup. He had been breaking down games and analysing performances of the teams alongside Kasper Schmeichel and Alex Scott.But after the World Cup ended on Sunday, the family have been making the most of exploring the Big Apple.  Abbey and Peter danced with their children in the back of a taxi as it blasted out Jay Z and Taylor Swift songs. The family celebrated being back together again as Peter has been working in the US for the 2026 World Cup. After flying out to New York, the brood headed out for dinner at Harry’s and couldn’t resist having a good sing-a-long on the way there. Abbey shared the sweet clips on Instagram of their lookalike daughter Sophia filming the family singing.  The family flew out to reunite with Peter who had joined the FOX Sports Broadcast Team in the United States for the World Cup Their daughters Sophia, 15, Liberty and sons Johnny, eight, and Jack, seven, looked like they were having a blast as they grinned for family snaps She playfully captioned the post: ‘When Liberty met Liberty #tourists’. She captioned the post: ‘Family’.     Abbey recently discussed her decision to curb her drinking habits and change her lifestyle, admitting she ‘overdid the wine’ while holed up at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Abbey revealed after waking up at 6.30am, she begins her morning with a coffee while the children eat croissants for breakfast, admitting starting the day can be ‘hectic’ as she has to ensure making it to school on time.She told The Sunday Times magazine: ‘Once all four kids are at school my day can begin. I might overindulge on holiday and consume a lot of wine but then I’ll be on a health kick, so I go to the gym every day.’The model said she’ll also spend an hour practising dressage with her horse Enzo, and once a week she and Crouch record their podcast The Therapy Crouch together.She continued: ‘If we’re doing the podcast, lunch will be some chicken sandwiches from the deli. And once a week I’ll meet up with a group of friends for a girly lunch of pasta and a bellini or two…’Dinner is always cooked by me; I made these incredible dauphinoise potatoes with steak, mushrooms and green beans last night.’If I’m too tired or I’m out, Pete will either get a takeaway or make the only dish he ever cooks, which is Daddy’s omelette – basically stuffed with whatever’s in the fridge.’
