Katherine Ryan has declared that having lots of children can be ‘trashy’ and claimed there is ‘no normal, smart, sane, middle-class person’ who has more than two.The mother-of-four, 43, argued that people with large families tend to fall into two groups – those who abuse state support and the wealthy for whom having several children is a ‘luxury experience’.’I think that the people who have loads of kids – and I know this will offend certain people – but I think they’re a mix of like high-achieving and low-achieving and nothing in the betwixt,’ she said on her Telling Everybody Everything podcast.’Don’t you think it’s like a real trash thing to do, having lots of kids? You’ll see people and, you know, benefits exist for a reason.’I do have certain very socialist beliefs, and I think that assistance from your government is good in certain scenarios.’But there are people who take the p*** and they have no disability and there’s no reason they couldn’t work and they have like 25 kids just for the fun of it.’ Katherine Ryan has declared that having lots of children can be ‘trashy’ and claimed there is ‘no normal, smart, sane, middle-class person’ who has more than two (Katherine with her kids and husband Bobby Koostra) She continued: ‘Then they get government assistance and they have no education and they sometimes have drug and alcohol dependency issues and like whatever, whatever, because nobody can tell you that you cannot procreate.’Katherine, who created and starred in Netflix comedy The Duchess – about a single mother debating whether to have another child with her ex – is herself a mother of four.She shares Fred, five, Fenna, three, and ten-month-old Holland with husband Bobby Kootstra, while her eldest daughter Violet, 17, is from a previous relationship.Katherine went on to contrast those she accused of abusing state support with wealthier parents who can afford the extra expense and childcare involved.She said: ‘There will be people who view having four kids as a luxury experience because you have to be in a certain wealth bracket where you’re like, ‘Okay, I can pay this many school fees…’Okay, I can get them like this stupid car now that I need. Okay, we can hire like two or three hotel rooms everywhere we go.’ Katherine is pictured after giving birth to 10-month-old Holland Katherine also took aim at Hollywood star Natalie Portman’s decision to have another baby at 45. Natalie recently welcomed her third child – and first with musician partner Tanguy Destable (Natalie pictured earlier this year) ‘And that’s why I think some celebrities… are just like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. OK, we’ll get another nanny.”She added: ‘Not to say they’re not good parents, but there’s no normal, smart, sane, middle-class person who has more than two kids.’Katherine also took aim at Hollywood star Natalie Portman’s decision to have another baby at 45. Natalie recently welcomed her third child – and first with musician partner Tanguy Destable.Katherine said Natalie’s decision was exactly the kind of example she needed to stop herself being tempted to start over again.She said: ‘The woes of Hollywood… look at Natalie Portman be like, ‘I’m 45. I have a new boyfriend. I’m going to have another baby.”Like, cute and great. What a blessing. But she will regret this decision, absolutely.’
