Our bodies go through huge, sometimes permanent sacrifices to bring children into the world, and we deserve support, not shame.’The former Made in Chelsea star went on to share how she no longer feels ‘shame’ in sharing her incontinence story as she’s had so many messages from women with similar experiences. She said: ‘My DMs were FULL of women saying “me too”, with so many of you saying it feels like a dirty secret, and actually all of your messages reminded me there really is no shame ??’I’m still doing my pelvic floor training, still putting off the surgery, but in the meantime I’m not letting it stop me living my life.’Rounding off her message, Ashley heaped praise on Celine Dion, 58, who recently returned to the stage after stepping away following her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome in 2022. I used to buy her music scores when I was little and having singing lessons, so seeing her was emotional anyway, but after watching the documentary and knowing what she’s gone through to get back on stage, and seeing how emotional she was to be there too… honestly ?? It was just SO special and one of those nights I know I’ll always remember.’What a bloody weekend – oh and I got my washbag back! ??’Her empowering post was met with a plethora of supportive messages from her fans and showbiz pals, with many sharing their own journeys while lauding her for raising awareness. Back in June, Ashley confessed she felt ‘heartbroken’ at her postnatal recovery as she opened up about the reality of motherhood in her shoot with Women’s Health. Reflecting on her postnatal recovery after giving birth to her first child, she said: ‘I felt heartbroken at my postnatal recovery. ‘I thought faecal incontinence must be normal, but no one talked about it. It was only three months in that I messaged a private health physio to say, “At what point does the incontinence stop?” and she was like, “No, that’s not normal”.’Explaining why there needs to be more honest conversations surrounding the realities of motherhood, she said: ‘When you talk about struggling in motherhood and feelings of regret or despair people say, “What will your children think when they learn about this?”‘But maybe if we didn’t romanticise [motherhood] so much, we’d equip people better to deal with it…’Motherhood heightened my sense of urgency – not only because I see the struggles that so many people are going through, but also because of the impossibilities that mothers face.’There’s too much pressure on a mum to figure it all out, then be told if they complain that they don’t love their kid.’
