Harry Maguire is set to win a recall to the England squad, Daily Mail Sport understands.
Thomas Tuchel has been giving strong consideration to a first call-up under him for the Manchester United defender.
And now Maguire’s club form will be rewarded with a return to the international fold. His last cap was in September 2024 under Lee Carsley.
So far, he had been overlooked by Tuchel and it had appeared his England career could be over. However, the German will hand the 33-year-old a World Cup lifeline by including him for this month’s friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
Maguire has 64 caps and has played at the last two World Cups.
Newcastle defender Lewis Hall is another in line for his first call-up under Tuchel.
