Wayne Rooney cosies up with wife Coleen at the Grand National as they join thousands of racegoers to watch I Am Maximus make history at Aintree

Coleen and Wayne Rooney put on a cosy display at the Grand National as they were spotted locking eyes together in the crowd on Saturday.

The mother-of-four, 40, was spotted arm in arm with her husband, 40, in the grandstand as they witnessed I Am Maximus make racing history to become a two-time Grand National winner.

She wowed in a figure-hugging floor-length cream dress which featured tied ruched detailing around her waist.

Accessorising with strappy gold heels, a matching gold purse and gold earrings, the mother of four appeared in great spirits as she enjoyed the day out with her husband.

Meanwhile Wayne looked suitably smart in a suit, pale blue shirt and tie and sunglasses.

More than 150,000 spectators have descended on the races over the course of the three-day event, building up to the showpiece chase this afternoon.

I Am Maximus, who won in 2024, became the eighth horse to win the race twice.

He had been a popular choice for punters, with one hopeful putting a £100,000 bet at 8-1 odds with bookies Fitzwilliam Sports, giving them a pay-out worth £900,000.

Crowds braved the elements today as punters turned up at the Merseyside racecourse in their thousands to watch the highly anticipated steeple chase get underway just after 4pm.

Racegoers who had dressed in their finest were forced to seek cover under umbrellas, coats and handbags as heavy rain and hailstones overshadowed what was a sunny day.

More than 150,000 spectators have descended on the races over the course of the three-day event, which has built up to the showpiece steeplechase on Saturday.

Unlike Royal Ascot which adopts stricter rules on what to wear, the festival takes a more relaxed approach and tells attendees to simply come ‘dressed to feel your best’.

And while Cheltenham is all about the tweed country looks, Aintree has seen more of an array of different outfits on display.

Racegoers have gone all out in figure-hugging dresses, enormous hats and sunnies as they enjoy one of the biggest dates in the racing calendar.

Some were spotted struggling with disposable ponchos and umbrellas as they did their best to enjoy the day, despite the encroaching cold.

Attendees lifted handbags aloft and threw jackets over their heads to shield their carefully chosen outfits from the adverse conditions.

It has been a busy week for Coleen after she celebrated her 40th birthday last week with a swanky bash at her and Wayne’s £20million Cheshire mansion.

Coleen threw the huge bash for her closest friends and family as she had an enormous white marquee put up in the 50-acre grounds of her home.

And in the days following the party, Coleen continued her birthday celebrations with a family ski trip.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, Coleen shared a snap of herself, Wayne and their youngest sons Kit, 10, and Cass, eight, with a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

It is not known if their older sons Kai, 16, and Klay, 12, joined the family on the ski trip.

It was revealed earlier this week that Coleen’s 40th birthday bash was captured as part of her £10million deal with Disney+.

It is expected the Disney+ series will follow the I’m A Celebrity star as well as Wayne and their four sons Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.

A source told The Sun: ‘Coleen’s party was captured in parts as part of her Disney series. Everyone had a fantastic time and some videos and pictures were shared on social media.

‘But if fans really want to see the party, they’ll have to watch the Disney show when it comes out.’

The Daily Mail have contacted Coleen’s representatives for comment.

During her boozy party, Coleen let her hair down as she danced the night away with her husband Wayne and son Kai.

The TV star had an A-list guest list which included Wayne’s ex-Manchester United pals Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, reality TV’s Leanne Brown, ex-footballer Phil Bardsley and his Real Housewives of Cheshire missus Tanya.

Elsewhere Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy delighted guests with an acoustic performance.
