Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira is almost unrecognisable as she displays her drastic weight loss in a blue corseted gown at the Oscars after ‘turning to Ozempic to revitalise her Hollywood career’

Euphoria fans would be forgiven for failing to recognise Barbie Ferreira as she made a glamorous appearance at the 98th annual Academy Awards on Sunday evening.

The actress and model, best known for her starring role as Kat Hernandez in the HBO show, claimed her own share of the spotlight in a sweeping blue corseted gown upon her arrival at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.

Statement gold accessories gave the look an added touch of elegance as she crossed the red carpet and made her way inside the Highland Avenue venue.

But it was her dramatically slimmer look that once again caught the eye, amid claims the actress, 29, has turned to weight loss jabs in an attempt to further her Hollywood career.

Last year, a source told the Daily Mail: ‘Since she quit Euphoria, the opportunities have been drying up for Barbie and she knew that a reinvention was necessary to maintain longevity.

‘In order to get roles in Hollywood, you’ve got to look the part and as shallow as that sounds, it is, unfortunately, true.’

The insider added, ‘She lost the weight to revitalize her career and better highlight her talents. She has such a strong drive to succeed in the industry and is incredibly talented.

‘Doing this spread and showing off her new body was a way of saying, ‘Hey this is me now and I am ready to work.’

‘She wants to be able to play sexy parts too and will do what it takes to succeed. Ozempic can offer a really easy way to achieve this.’

A separate source also told the Daily Mail, ‘She actually wasn’t in Euphoria that much, but the time she was on set it was clear that her image was important to her.

‘Whether she did Ozempic or lost weight by other means, she is loving all the attention from it. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if it was Ozempic though.’

Ferreira wowed as she strutted the catwalk during the 2025 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last October.

She later spoke about the opportunity to walk on the iconic runway and revealed to People that she had been ‘psyched’ upon learning she was cast in the show.

‘That was just not in my head at all to walk a runway, period, especially the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which is the biggest show. I just remember being like, ‘What?”

She added, ‘It took me a minute to process what that meant, because I just was not expecting that at all. And then I got so excited. I called my mom, who’s Brazilian, and could not be more excited.’

Barbie gained recognition as a teenager for her posts on Tumblr, and also modelled for brands such as American Apparel, H&M and Target.

She later took on the role of Kat in the HBO series Euphoria – but back in 2022, Barbie announced her exit from the show.

At the time, she shared on Instagram, ‘After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye.

‘I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.’

She has since moved on to other projects such as the 2023 movie House Of Spoils alongside Ariana DeBose.
