Baltimore Orioles

Friday night Orioles game thread: at Rangers, 8:05

The Orioles, mired in a serious offensive slump, travel to Arlington, Texas, to take on the Rangers, their hopes for a win pinned on a guy whose ERA is currently 11.42.

Some guys, like Trey Mancini, Anthony Santander, and Ryan Mountcastle will break out of their slumps… the question is when.

Considered to be on the bubble entering the season, López made the starting rotation thanks to a solid spring—a 2.75 ERA in 19.2 innings of work with seven walks and 17 strikeouts.

Tonight’s starter for the Rangers, Mike Foltynewicz, is on a reclamation project after six seasons with Atlanta.

The righty missed some time in 2019 with bone spurs in his elbow, and he was cut by the Braves after one rough start in 2020 in which his velocity was down about five miles from his usual.

The 6-7 Rangers, not expected to be competitive in 2021, aren’t the scariest foe the Orioles have faced in 2021, and their offense has been sputtering, too.
