Boiling Springs pushes back West Perry and Newport to win record 9th District 3 Class 2A team wrestling champinship

The Bubblers did rally, first to tie the dual at 15-15, and then sprint to the finish for a 34-27 win over the Mustangs that included a forfeit in the final bout.

From there, Boiling Springs rolled past Newport for a 51-15 win and the Bubblers’ record ninth District 3 team title and their first since 2018.

The championship was a goal that Byers knew was within reach before the season began, and the team endured through chaos, uncertainty, schedule changes and lost matches.

Byers said a consistent approach when it came to training, nutrition and maintaining weight set the tone for the Bubblers to extend their own record of District 3 team titles.

Byers credits decades of program-building and training that have kept Boiling Springs in the district mix, including seasons like this one with a young team that brings almost everybody back in 2021-’22.

That approach made all the difference as Byers routinely leaned on freshmen and sophomores to not only hold their own, but to win big matches.
