Women on Daily News sports staff react to Kim Ng's breakthrough hiring

DT: Pretty much every time I sent my resume or interviewed for a job in this industry, there was always this ball of nervousness in my stomach because I wasn’t sure anyone would be willing to hire a young woman attempting to cover baseball.

SV: I entered the sports journalism professional landscape the year after Jessica Mendoza became the first in-booth female broadcaster to call a Major League Baseball game.

The original version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” was sung by a woman; a character named Katie Casey asks to be taken to a baseball game (thank you Jeva Lange for pointing that out).

And then, I have to say being part of a unique group of women who cover the Yankees — Suzyn, Meredith Marakovits, Marly Rivera and Lindsey Adler — on a daily basis is pretty cool and inspiring in itself.

There’s also Claire Smith, Raquel Ferreira, Suzyn Waldman, Marysol Castro, Meredith Marakovits, Nathalie Alonso, Alyson Footer and Lindsay Adler.

Shout out to Claire Smith, Jessica Mendoza, Stephanie Apstein, Marly Rivera, Mary Garber, Chloe Ferrarone, literally the entire membership of the Association for the Women in Sports Media.
