Pitt & West Virginia Extend Backyard Brawl Series Through 2023-24 Season

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University have agreed to extend the Backyard Brawl through the 2023-24 basketball season, pushing this season's game, originally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13, after the two additional games that were added to the series back in June.

In late September, the NCAA announced the start of the 2020-21 basketball season as Nov. 25 and reduced the number of games teams are permitted to play due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pitt and West Virginia resumed the Backyard Brawl series with a four-game agreement that began during the 2017-18 season.

Pitt and West Virginia met for the first time in 1904, playing a pair of games prior to basketball becoming a varsity sport at the university.
