Men's Basketball Holds First Practice for 2020-21 Season

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Under the watchful gaze of third-year head coach Mark Prosser the Western Carolina men's basketball team opened practice for the 2020-21 season on Wednesday.

The Catamounts return nine letterwinners and three starters following a 19-12 mark in 2019-20 that saw that team reach the semifinal round of the Southern Conference tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 season thanks to a 70-56 win over Mercer.

Redshirt senior guard Mason Faulkner returns after he led the team with an average of 17.7 points and 6.1 assists per game a year ago as he earned All-Southern Conference and NABC All-Region laurels.

This past spring, Faulkner dipped his toe in the NBA Draft waters but opted to return to Cullowhee for his final collegiate season.

Junior Kameron Gibson has recovered from a season-ending knee injury sustained last December and looks to improve upon a shortened season that saw him average 8.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Junior Cory Hightower arrives from Presbyterian College after leading the Blue Hose in scoring and rebounding last season with 13.7 and 6.1 respectively.
