Heritage guard Taylor opts for ACC future at Clemson

Lucas Taylor was flying well under the radar of college basketball recruiters earlier this year, even after an impressive junior season at Heritage High School in Wake Forest.

Former North Carolina and NBA star Jerry Stackhouse extended a scholarship offer to Taylor on April 29, starting an avalanche of interest that eventually included 31 different NCAA Division I programs.

Despite not entering the recruiting competition for Taylor until July and making an offer Sept. 28, the Tigers beat out a list of finalists that also included Cincinnati, Davidson, Marquette, Wisconsin and Wake Forest.

Taylor scored a career-high 33 points in the second game of his junior season against Raleigh Broughton, but it was an outing in the next-to-the-last contest against county rival Rolesville that most impressed Brill.

He joins combo guard Joshua Beadle from Columbia, South Carolina and power forward Ian Schieffelin from Grayson, Georgia.

“I feel like it’s some multiple positions I can work in, coming off ball screens, handling it, using my size and length to make passes and things like that.
