Tigers' Casey Mize loses no-hit bid in 6th inning, departs one batter later

Detroit Tigers rookie starter Casey Mize pitched five innings without allowing a hit on Friday night before giving up a double to Chicago White Sox third baseman Yolmer Sanchez with nobody out in the sixth.

Tigers reliever Jose Cisnero hit Tim Anderson with a pitch and then gave up a 3-run home run to Eloy Jimenez.

After opening the season at the team’s alternate site in Toledo, he was called up to Detroit last month along with fellow rookie Tarik Skubal.

He made his debut in Chicago on Aug. 19, striking out seven batters in 4 1/3 inning in what was his longest outing of the year until Friday.

Mize was matched Friday by White Sox starter Lucas Giolito, who threw five shutout innings before he also ran into trouble in the sixth.

The Tigers scored three runs in a lengthy top of the sixth inning, which may have knocked Mize out of his rhythm.
