Tigers blank Royals for first shutout of 2020: Game recap, box score


Bottom 7th : Jorge Bonifacio and Austin Romine led off the inning with back-to-back singles against Chance Adams, but he retired the next three to escape.


Top 7th : Tigers reliever Jose Cisnero struck out three Royals in a lengthy half-inning that also included a walk and a single.


Bottom 6th: Royals reliever Matt Harvey struck out Daz Cameron and Victor Reyes to open the inning, then allowed a home run to Willi Castro, a well-struck double to Miguel Cabrera and a single to Jeimer Candelario.


Bottom 5th: Royals rookie reliever Tyler Zuber loaded the bases on a single and two walks, then proceeded to strike out three straight batters -- Jorge Bonifacio, Austin Romine and Isaac Paredes -- to end the inning.


Bottom 4th: Royals reliever Jake Newberry retired the side in order, getting Victor Reyes and Willi Castro swinging.


Top 1st : Whit Merrifield, who rivals the White Sox' Tim Anderson as a thorn in the Tigers' side, led off the game with a double off the wall in right-center.
