Yankees can't stop Rays, Masahiro Tanaka shelled | Rapid reaction

Sure, they were without Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and DJ LeMahieu — their three most potent bats all on the injured list.

The loss snapped the Yankees’ six-game winning streak and woke them up after they were on cruise control in a four-game sweep of the lowly Red Sox.

Batting leadoff for the first time in his career, musclebound first baseman Luke Voit crushed a two-run homer in the fifth inning and walked to start the game.

Tanaka repeatedly missed in the strike zone, giving up 10 balls hit with an exit velocity of 95 mph or greater.

Down 1-0 following Michael Perez’s RBI single in the third inning, Brandon Lowe crushed a three-run shot to center field, putting the Yankees behind, 4-0.

Manager Aaron Boone finally pulled Tanaka after Austin Meadows crushed a solo homer off him to start the fifth and give the Rays a 6-1 lead.
