Padres notes: Tommy Pham has surgery; looking for offense; Tuesday starter uncertain

Injuries have hit the Padres, and they have created opportunities for a team that has lost five straight games and is hurting offensively as well.

In particular, Torrens is being looked at to provide a lift at a position where Mejía and Austin Hedges entered Monday’s game having combined to hit .099 with a .355 OPS.

He added that the extra day, which every starter would get early in a normal 162-game season, was important from a rest standpoint but also for Paddack to get a second bullpen session with coaches.

Left-hander Adrián Morejon is with the team as a member of the taxi squad and has been stretched out to five innings pitching intrasquad games at USD.

Noting the big dimensions of the new Globe Life Field, Tingler said he would to see his team “lower our sights” and get back to manufacturing runs with extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning.

With the benefit of hindsight, Tingler lamented having Hedges try to bunt Jake Cronenworth home from third base Sunday.
