Giants recall Steven Duggar to help patch hole in outfield defense

Before the first of four straight games against the Los Angeles Angels , the Giants added Duggar back to their roster and optioned Dereck Rodriguez to their alternate site, although the right-hander will stay with the Giants as part of the taxi squad.

He could prove to be a valuable addition this week, though, particularly for a team with serious issues holding leads.

Duggar's absence was felt Saturday when Hunter Pence misplayed a liner to right, which cost Trevor Gott as he blew a second consecutive big lead.

With Austin Slater unable to throw because of an elbow strain, the Giants were in desperate need of some outfield defense.

Mike Yastrzemski is the only other healthy outfielder on the roster who is even average defensively, although Mauricio Dubon has generally done a solid job out there.

Rodriguez made two appearances after returning to the active roster.
