Brother vs. brother: Seagers face off for first time as Dodgers face Mariners

Sitting stage left in the interview room at Dodger Stadium on Monday afternoon, Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager leaned forward and said the secret word into the microphone.

A moment later, younger brother and Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager answered the first question via Zoom from the media.

“It’s a pretty cool moment, but at the same time they’ve planned when to come out to spring training, when to do a lot of different things around this type of game.

There is a bright side, Corey said, for the parents three time zones away trying to keep up on the careers of two sons playing for West Coast teams.

The Dodgers and Mariners meet in spring training each year and Kyle mentioned a photo the two brothers took before one of those exhibition games.

“It starts out excitement,” Kyle said of his reaction when he saw the four-game matchup (two in Los Angeles and two in Seattle this week) on the reworked schedule.
