LAFC aims to ride momentum against upstart Orlando City

Los Angeles Football Club turned a corner against the Seattle Sounders in the Round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament and is now three wins away from being crowned champions.

LAFC hopes to maintain that momentum against tournament host and darling Orlando City Soccer Club in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The club boasted the most dangerous offense of the competition from the start, but its defensive lapses during the group stage kept its opponents in games.

“We’ve seen that there is starting to be a trend, us dominating the possession and controlling the game as a lot of them are sitting back and waiting to counterpress [against] us.

The sixth-year club went undefeated (2-0-1) on its way to winning Group A and has seven goals scored against just three allowed after shutting out the Montreal Impact 1-0 on Saturday in the Round of 16.

New Orlando City coach Oscar Pareja has his club playing at a high level, but the Lions face their toughest matchup yet.
