Detroit Tiger CJ Cron continues to show up in the clutch for his new team

Cron added his second home run of the season on Sunday, delivering a two-run, ninth inning right-field blast to break a 1-1 tie with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds scored a run in the bottom of the inning but the Tigers held on for their second win of the season.

After striking out twice in the game on away fastballs, Cron said he was looking for something on the outer half of the plate from Reds reliever Michael Lorenzen.

The 17-year veteran drew a strike on the first, fouled the second and the third before drawing a ball on a slider.

“When you’re on deck and you can see kind of what the pitcher’s working with, it helps a lot,” said Cron, adding Cabrera’s walk was a “huge” momentum boost.

While Cron’s offensive skills played a big role in Sunday’s win, his defense contributions at first base were also important this weekend.
