Men's basketball leads charge back to Storrs

The players on the UConn men’s basketball team returned to campus Friday and will begin voluntary workouts in the coming days.

The “re-entry plans” for the men’s basketball and football teams were submitted to the state’s Higher Education Committee, the school said.

UConn says its athletes must test negative for COVID-19 and be in a modified quarantine of small groups before they are allowed to begin workouts.

“The health and well-being of our student-athletes and staff is our top priority and I am pleased that we will be able to begin the process of welcoming our teams back to campus,” UConn director of athletics David Benedict said in a statement released by the school.

“The procedures our teams must adhere to are the product of the hard work and expertise of medical professionals on campus and across our state.

Athletes will be screened daily and before being admitted to school facilities, UConn officials said, in an attempt to detect symptoms and to do temperature checks.
