Florida posts record single-day total with 3822 new coronavirus cases

Florida reported its largest single-day spike in confirmed new cases of coronavirus Friday, the second record-breaking showing in two days as part of an alarming upward swing for the Sunshine State.

That broke the prior one-day record of 3,207 new cases set just 24 hours earlier.

Prior to June 13, the number of confirmed new cases in the state never topped 2,000 for a single day.

Ron DeSantis has blamed the ominous upward trend on factors including more testing and outbreaks in jails, nursing homes and the agricultural industry.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, a vocal critic of Santis’ early reopening of the state’s economy, has pushed back on the governor’s claims, saying the spikes can’t be explained by more testing or the farmworkers who left the state weeks ago after harvests ended.

Our ICU beds are filling up and public health officials are warning Flordia could be the next epicenter,” she said in a Twitter post Friday .
