Portland Trail Blazers show fight and urgency in win over Houston Rockets

As always, the group listened intently as Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts laid out the defensive game plan.

But ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Houston Rockets, there was an added air of intensity and a feeling of resolve inside the room.

But on Wednesday, the Blazers stepped into the Toyota Center in Houston with a specific game plan – shut down the NBA’s leading scorer, James Harden – and they executed it.

And when Hassan Whiteside failed to slide toward Harden on one play in the third quarter, Stotts called a timeout and laid into his team, refusing to let mistakes give the Rockets the momentum.

Despite a difficult first half to the season, the Blazers remain committed to the playoff race, and firmly in contention for one of the final seeds in the Western Conference.

In their pregame meeting Wednesday, the Blazers talked about bringing energy to the court and starting the second half of the season off on the right foot.
