ABB to invest $40M at Mebane plant, add 400 jobs

RALEIGH – Tech company ABB will add 400 jobs to its Mebane operations, officials announced Wednesday.

Roy Cooper said the expansion would create $1 billion over the next 12 years.

The company, based in Switzerland, moved its U.S. headquarters to Mebane from Connecticut because of North Carolina’s universities, proximity to a customer base and quality of life, said Franklin Sullivan, an ABB local division manager.

After the expansion, the company will have more than 3,000 employees in North Carolina, Sullivan said.

Durham Technical Community College will offer job training to area residents, said Orange County Commissioner Renee Price.

The expansion comes as it stops production in Lake Mary, Florida, the company said.
