VanVleet says Rockford's support 'means the most out of anything'

ROCKFORD — As his NBA career evolved from undrafted free agent to key component of a run to the Finals, Fred VanVleet has never hesitated to show love for his hometown.

“It means the world to be revered like that in your hometown," VanVleet told Yahoo Sports Canada at Wednesday’s practice.

The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau estimated more than 3,500 people attended Monday's first Jurassic Park RKFD watch party.

Fans and friends filled the corner of Water and Market streets wearing Raptors jerseys and T-shirts with VanVleet's logo to watch Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

The Rockford watch parties are named after those held in Maple Leaf Square, also known as Jurassic Park, outside the Scotiabank Arena, where the Raptors play home games.

VanVleet, who is 25 and in his third season with the Raptors, told Yahoo Sports Canada that he's committed to creating a better Rockford.
