Phillies OF Andrew McCutchen suffers torn ACL, done for season

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen has suffered a torn left ACL and is done for the season.

McCutchen suffered the injury during a rundown between first and second base in Monday’s loss to the San Diego Padres.

McCutchen told reporters Tuesday that he knew something serious was wrong when he suffered the injury, but that he had hoped it was his meniscus.

McCutchen joined the Phillies in the offseason on a thee-year, $50 million deal after splitting last season between the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees.

Jay Bruce, whom the Phillies recently acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners, took McCutchen’s place in the lineup Monday when the injury occurred in the first inning.

The Phillies were already down an outfielder with Odubel Herrera being placed on administrative leave through June 17 after a domestic violence arrest.
