Revolution drop charity game to English Premier League power Chelsea

They allowed visiting English Premier League power Chelsea to roam at will on the newly laid grass field inside Gillette Stadium as the Blues took away a one-sided 3-0 victory in front of a crowd of 27,329 in the “Final Whistle on Hate” match.

Barkley, who was signed by Chelsea last year from Everton where the 25-year-old standout had made 150 appearances (21 goals), showed great composure before settling the ball some 15 yards out and drilling a rising shot into the upper right corner.

At the opposite end, the Blues displayed an intricate and determined effort to close on the ball, particularly with 23-year-old Danish defender Andrea Christensen at right back to continually frustrate the outclassed but hard-working Revs.

That proved costly as the Blues swung into transition and quickly made it a 2-0 gap in the 29th minute on a diving header by French international Giroud as the clinic on converting chances continued.

Revs keeper Brad Knighton, who had entered the game seven minutes earlier, came far out to block a shot by Chelsea forward Pedro just before halftime and prevent the margin from growing.

Higuain didn’t disappoint and found the mark in the 62nd minute when he accepted a corner from Willian and fired a low shot that changed direction off the right foot of Chelsea teammate Barkley standing in front.
