Mike Harrington: Krueger hire for Sabres coach is different, but will it be better?

I was texting this week with a Western Conference colleague about Sabres coaching candidates and he stopped me in my tracks when he asked if I had ever seen the commercials for Dos Equis, the Mexican beer that featured "The most interesting man in the world."

If Dan Bylsma was a safe choice from the hockey world and Phil Housley was a reasonable lunge for a first-timer, Krueger represents completely out of the box.

Sheldon Keefe was a hot pick but he probably figured he could do better than Buffalo, and why would the Toronto Maple Leafs give him permission to talk to an archrival in their division anyway?

He did lots of due diligence but ultimately went with someone with a long relationship with his father, noted Canadian sport psychologist Cal Botterill.

The morning of the final game, won by Canada on a last-minute goal by Brad Marchand, Krueger talked about the journey because he knew this could be the last time the club was together.
