Verizon's Galaxy S10 5G launches as it unveils next 20 5G cities

On Thursday, the largest wireless carrier in the US said that it will begin taking pre-orders for Samsung's first 5G phone, with pricing starting at $1,300 for the 256GB S10 5G.

Announced alongside the 4G LTE Galaxy S10s in February, the S10 5G will start as a Verizon exclusive before heading to the other major US carriers later in the second quarter.

While the processor and software are the same as its S10 siblings, the 5G has a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED display, a 4,500 mAh battery and six total camera lenses -- up from five on the S10 Plus .

There is no timeline for how long the add-on fee will be waived, making this promotion a bit different than the one that currently accompanies the Z3 and its 5G mod.

New to the list are: Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Des Moines, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Mo., Little Rock, Memphis, Phoenix, Providence, San Diego, Salt Lake City and Washington, D.C.

Verizon had previously promised to turn on 5G in 30 cities in 2019 and earlier this month launched mobile 5G in parts of Chicago and Minneapolis.
