Manager Joe Maddon Instills Title Desire In Cubs

Cubs President Theo Epstein has made it clear that there is no guarantee for Russell’s return and it’s unlikely when or if he earns his way back to the major league roster that he will play shortstop.

Javy Baez has earned his everyday spot at the position and remains as one of the most exciting and productive players in the National League.

(Brandon) Crawford’s been really good in San Francisco, but for the most part, Baez might be the best overall shortstop in the league right now if you want to grade it all out with the offense, defense, baserunning,” said Maddon.

Albert Almora Jr. struggled early on in the first few weeks of the campaign, but went 4-for-5 on Friday in the Cubs’ 8-3 loss to the D-backs and was then sitting on Saturday in a 9-1 victory and again on Sunday.

The name of the game is winning and if Maddon can continue to keep the players focused on a game-by-game basis and instill desire to capture another World Series, then his job is done.
