LA Galaxy narrowly defeat Minnesota United 3-2

Mar 16, 2019; Carson, CA, USA; Minnesota United defender Ike Opara (3) battles for control against LA Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget (17) in the second half at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The storylines were not in Los Angeles’ favor heading into the match: a raging Minnesota side coming to town with two of the Galaxy’s designated players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romain Alessandrini, unavailable due to injury.

As head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto suggested during the week, Uriel Antuna started the game at forward, attempting to fill the shoes of the injured Ibrahimovic.

In a string of more than 20 passes, Emmanuel Boateng switched the ball over to Rolf Feltscher, who slotted it in for Chris Pontius to score with his chest.

Jan Gregus took a long-distance strike in the 75th minute, one which was a little too hot for goalkeeper David Bingham to handle and found its way into the back of the net.

The Loons made things even more interesting in the 87th minute, when second-half substitute Angelo Rodriguez found the back of the net to make the score 3-2, but the LA Galaxy held on to maintain their victory.
