5 injured after flight from Newark slides off snowy runway in Maine

CommutAir flight 4933, operating as United Express, was involved in the mishap at Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle around 11:43 a.m. One pilot and four passengers were taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries, said Kim Smith, Presque Isle’s public information officer.

All of the injured were later released from Northern Light AR Gould Hospital, Smith said.

Photos from the scene showed the landing gear from the Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft wedged between the plane’s left engine and fuselage.

There were 28 passengers and three crew members onboard the 50-seat plane, according to CommutAir, which is part owned by United Airlines.

Our highest priority is the care and support of those on board,” the airline said in a statement on Twitter .

The airport, not far from the Canadian border, was closed as officials responded to the incident.
