49ers guard Mike Person to sign 3-year extension

Well-traveled right guard Mike Person, 30, agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with the 49ers on Sunday, a league source said.

The contract will provide Person with the most security he has enjoyed during an eight-year career in which he has spent time with six teams and been released on five occasions.

Person played 94.5 percent of the offensive snaps last year despite appearing on the injury report with foot, knee and ankle issues.

“I became a big admirer of Mike Person,” general manager John Lynch said at the NFL combine last week.

After spending 2017 with the Colts, Person was unsigned for the first two months of free agency last year and wondered if he’d played his last NFL snap while he worked out in Overland Park, Kan.

Last week, both Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan noted they hoped guard Joshua Garnett, a 2016 first-round pick, would emerge after dealing with injuries for most of his career.
