NFL free agents 2019: 6 defensive players Giants could target | Haha Clinton ...

A strong case can be made that Landon Collins is the Giants' best defensive player, and the league's premier box safety.

Collins' nearly logged 100 total tackles, despite a torn labrum ending his season in Week 13.

The most likely outcome for Collins this season, is for the Giants to use the franchise tag on him, keeping him fron the open market, where, he could command upwards of $11.5-$12 million as one of the most sought after players at the position.

However, the franchise tag for the safety position is expected to count $11.28 million, which is a significant chunk of the Giants' current cap space.

This is Collins' first opportunity to test free agency, and it will be worth watching just how committed the Giants are to him.

Likewise, it's intriguing just how alluring the pull of a potential big payday from a team capable of competing for a Super Bowl is to Collins, because of he becomes available, teams on the cusp of a championship will be burning up the phone lines trying to sign him.
