Villanova's young guys show growth in victory over No. 24 St. John's

RADNOR – Until their freshmen and sophomore teammates gain a little more seasoning, Eric Paschall and Phil Booth will have to log the kind of minutes they played in Tuesday’s 76-71 come-from-behind victory over No.

Paschall and Booth, along with sophomores Collin Gillespie and Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, are the only Wildcats who have been through battles like those they went through in the last week, and will likely continue to go through the rest of the season.

Yet with each passing game, freshmen Saddiq Bey, Cole Swider and Jahvon Quinerly, and sophomore Jermaine Samuels are gaining the experience Villanova needs to remain as the team to beat in the Big East.

But those aforementioned underclassmen filled in the gaps to keep the Wildcats (12-4 overall, 3-0) as the only team without a loss in Big East Conference play.

Bey had seven points and eight rebounds, and hit two critical free throws with 9.9 seconds left in the game to ice it, even though the 6-8 freshman came up limping after he was fouled.

“Cole hit two big free throws tonight and grabbed some offensive rebounds and did a great job defensively.
