Drama at Supercross in Glendale ends with first-time winner at the top

Monster Energy AMA Supercross racers discuss race in Glendale Arizona Republic

Monster Energy AMA Supercross returned to State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Saturday.

Because of the extra space on the south side of State Farm Stadium, the track setup offered the longest straightaway of the season, meaning that racers with bad starting positions could make up ground quickly on the faster qualifiers.

A big crash at the start of the last chance qualifier later in the night allowed Tomac to sneak past the wreckage and into the main event.

In the 450SX main event, the biggest race of the night, Ken Roczen jumped out to a big lead, but he fell off his bike during the seventh lap, giving 2018 AMA Supercross and FIM World Champion Jason Anderson the lead.

It looked like Anderson was going to hold on for the win, but Blake Baggett steadily gained ground on the leader.
