Friends become enemies: Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic face each other in ...

Rising American talents Christian Pulisic (top) and Weston McKennie (bottom) will face off when Borussia Dortmund plays Schalke Saturday morning.

(Credit: AP File Photos)It is the fiercest rivalry in German football and one of the world’s biggest derbies: Schalke 04 versus Borussia Dortmund.

Not 100 percent fit in head coach Lucien Favre’s tactical plans, Pulisic often has to make way for the 18-year-old English winger, and furthermore, has struggled with injuries at times this season – he missed Dortmund’s game against Mainz (2-0) with muscular problems.

“Pulisic is for American soccer what Drake is for hip-hop,” Roger Bennett, founder of the Men in Blazers podcast, told the German magazine kicker this week.

Although in high demand in England Dortmund’s development as a whole has been almost too rapid for the 20-year-old winger, which in turn means that the Black and Yellows would not be too unhappy to cash in on Pulisic.

The game on Saturday, therefore, will make for some interesting viewing for Americans because it could be the last time two of the United States’ brightest talents to face each other in one of Europe’s fiercest rivalries.
