Man Utd shame rivals by leading the Premier League in THIS stat

Before this weekend, Manchester City’s club-trained players had been involved in just 0.46% of the total minutes played by Pep Guardiola’s men.

They can boast of the likes of Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott having come through their academy in a little over a decade.

Saints’ club-trained players have been seen in just 1.84 per cent of the total minutes played by Mark Hughes’ stragglers since the Premier League kicked off in August.

Of the current side only Jack Stephens – signed from Plymouth as a 17-year-old – James Ward-Prowse and Matt Targett come within that club-trained bracket.

More worrying generally is the fact that club-trained players made up just 8.42 per cent of the minutes played by clubs so far this season.
